Back by popular demand, your opportunity to snaffle a bargain or sell some junk from the loft (depending on your perspective).

How it will work:

Anyone wanting to sell something will give me the details. I will circulate a list.

Sellers will bring the items on the night and there will be opportunity to view them before the sale.

The items will be auctioned by lot number in an entertaining manner – as before (for those who can remember).

Buyers must settle up with the sellers on the night.

The rules:

Buying-

Just turn up on the night. You will need to settle directly with the seller on the night, please bring cash, for large items cheques may be acceptable subject to mutual agreement.

All items are bought as seen, no guarantee is provided. All equipment should be assumed faulty and not used until inspected and serviced by a suitably qualified technician.

Selling-

Please complete the Club Auction spreadsheet and return to me. If you do not include a reserve price the equipment will go to the highest bidder even if this means it is given away for free. If you are aware of any defects with the equipment you are selling you must include these in the description. Please keep the descriptions as brief as possible. Small items may be grouped into lots.

Friday February 8th 2008

A good reason to have a party!

We both experienced life threatening situations on 8th February……Kevin had a very serious car accident exactly 20 years to the day & I had a medical procedure go wrong exactly 3 years to the day: both situations resulting in weeks of intensive care and hospitalisation. We would like to throw a party to celebrate that we lived to see another day and to enjoy life!

All are welcome. Disco (sounds by Alex) and food.

8 pm till late

Hope you can come!

I offered a glass of tipple to the first correct answer – Well, here it is…

Dover Sole is named after the Common Sole (also thought of as the “King of Sole”). It is caught in the Atlantic off the coasts of France and England. The city of Dover in England figures in the name by virtue of having been a main fishing port for the London market. But, the name “Dover Sole” applies to all Common Sole.

People ‘took’ the name with them to the New World and Dover Sole today refers to two species of flatfish:

The common Sole, Solea solea, found in European waters. This is the “Dover Sole” of European cookery.

Microstomus pacificus, found in the eastern Pacific and called “Dover Sole” along the Pacific coast of America.

The “Sole” refers to the shape of the fish –- a bit like the sole of a shoe.

As a hobby, I have set up a internet shop to sell a range of diving t-shirt designs that I have created – My big idea is that you can personalise the back of the shirt to say whatever you like – You might like to visit the site by using the banner ad at the top of the page.

I am hoping to soon be in a position to offer a Kingston & Elmbridge SAC t-shirt produced to the same high quality as this range and I wanted to gauge if there would be any interest – I am basically hoping to cover my costs in running this newsletter web-site – so I would keep the cost down to a minimum for this very special item

The shirt would obviously feature the club logo.

Leave a comment below if you like this idea.
