DSMB Training

Are you confident you can deploy a delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) correctly ? Don’t be shy, worried (ashamed? ) if you can’t, er… even instructors sometimes get it wrong, but help is at hand

If you undertaking sport diver training you have to be able to successfully deploy a DSMB to pass SO4 and I know from experience that many students get a little nervous about the skill and hope to get it over and done with as quickly as possible as if it were a one off event but this is an essential skill that you will use very frequently throughout your diving career so it makes sense to get you base skills right.

According to training records, there are at least 14 people undergoing training who have yet to complete this task and I suspect there could be a few more who could do with the practice.

I plan to run a number of sessions to teach this very important skill at first in the pool to master the basics and then later in open water.
