There are places on the RYA certified Basic Sea Survival one day course at Southampton which costs £100.00 each if we can get a minimum of 10 (maximum of 12) on each course, so book early to get your place.

Dates: 30th January 2010 – 9 places left

If you wish to attend give your name to Chris Knight along with the course fee and preferred date, which will be allocated on a first come first seved basis.
Chris will look into the cost of a minibus for the day and let those who have booked know what the shared cost will be to save everyone taking cars, going from the club to the training centre then on to the pool and back to the club (maybe stopping off for a bit to eat on the way back).

OUTLINE OF THE COURSE

The one day RYA Basic Sea Survival course teaches you the personal survival techniques required to maximise your chances of survival in the event of immersion in cold water. A fun day which includes a two hour pool session, this course aims to help skippers and their crews in awareness of safety, emergency situations, and the use of emergency equipment.

Practical and theoretical training is provided in the following areas:

· Principles of survival and personal lifesaving appliances

· Areas of risk and emergency, abandoning ship (life rafts)

· Search and rescue

· Use of pyrotechnics

· Use of location aids

· Prevention and treatment of hypothermia

Successful candidates will be awarded the RYA Basic Sea Survival certificate. This qualification is required by all qualified Coastal Skippers and Yachtmasters who wish to obtain a commercial endorsement.

The one day RYA Sea Survival course counts as one module of the RYA / ISAF Offshore Safety certificate.
