Chepstow Training Weekend September 2015
Following a very successful and enjoyable club training weekend at Cheptow NDC, I would like to thank all the instructors for giving up their time and teaching our trainees various skills, including Ocean, sports and dive leading.
We had 9 instructors, including Dave Price who came over from Hereford (his new home, special thanks) with 11 trainees eager to learn. Others just came along to get wet, inside and out!
Many skills were achieved, with some doing 3 or 4 skills, but special praise to Debbie for overcoming her phobia about mask clearing, Darren for finishing his Ocean diver Qualification, Thomas and James for doing all dives in wet suits, and many more completed achievements.
We were blessed with Indian summer conditions, no rain in Wales?, on both days, the underwater visibility was 10 metres plus and a brisk 12 degrees in the shallows.
In total we had 23 divers on Saturday and 21 divers on Sunday, some completing 6 dives over the weekend. Most divers found accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights in the local pubs and we had 18 people for the curry on the Saturday evening, with a few
beers to wash it down. Unfortunately England spoilt a perfect weekend by losing to Wales in the rugby world cup, but that didn’t stop us taking over the Welsh pub we were in.
Finally thanks again to all trainers, trainees, my personal assistant (Corinne) for doing the sheets perfectly, regardless of having to chase some naughty boys for their stats. And even our two non-divers managed to complete the zip wire crossing over the lake. Great weekend and we plan to do similar weekends next year, it seems the best way for the trainees to gain skills and get to know us older members of the club. It’s our club let’s make it work.
